What is WOE.BEGONE? (and why should I listen to it?)

Do you like horror? Cowboys? Gay cowboys? Questions about self and personhood? Time travel shananigans? Great music? If you said yes to any of these questions, do I have the show for you! If you didn't, you can learn to through the power of podcasting.

Woe.Begone is a weekly sci-fi/horror audio drama created by Dylan Griggs.

We follow Mike Walters, who has learned about a sort of ARG called Woe.Begone. He joins it and realizes it isn't truly an ARG and instead has real life consequences when the gamerunners use time travel to save the life of his best friend. As he gets deeper into it, Mike discoveres that the stakes are higher than he could have ever expected. He continues to play along while he tries to gain the power of time travel for himself.

Or, for a punchier tagline: He plays a time travel murder game.

But of course, it doesn't end there. The nature of the show is that Mike continues to learn more about this technology as he falls down the rabbit hole.

The show starts off as a single narrator (Mike) telling us about past events. But at least once per season, you get a 'format break'; an episode that is presented as a live recording. Still, Dylan is the only voice actor for a while. In later seasons, there are full cast episodes (which are an absolute treat) interspersed with the classic format, each season having a different ratio.

Yes, full cast! There are some amazing voice actors who have joined the show. A few highlights are:

  • Lucille Valentine as Anne (you may know her as Paige from The Silt Verses)
  • Harlan Guthrie as August Baxter (you may know him from Malevolent)
  • David Ault as Ty Betteridge (you may know him as Walter Heath from The White Vault)

and many other wonderful folks!

In addition to the story being extremely interesting and fun, Dylan is a wonderful musician. Every episode has a full, unique soundtrack and sometimes we get a standalone track at the end of the episode or as an intermission.
